Postdoctoral research students from all over the world qualify to apply for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program.
Postdoctoral research students who have achieved great success in research by helping to solve their country’s social and economic problems will get support from the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program.
This Fellowship program will allow selected applicants to further their studies in Canada or any educational institution abroad.
There are up to 70 fellowships given out each year, and there are about 140 fellowships available at any given time.
The Banting Postdoctoral Research Fellowships aim to draw in and keep elite postdoctoral talent from across the country and beyond, cultivate their capacity for leadership, and train them for success as tomorrow’s research leaders
Banting Postdoctoral Research Fellowships Breakdown:
- Opened solely for research students
- The value of the Fellowship award is $70,000 every year.
- The duration of the Fellowship program is two years.
- The application deadline is September 17, 2024
- The host institutions are Canadian Universities and foreign partner Universities.
Banting Postdoctoral Research Fellowships Eligibility:
- Before the commencement date of their grant, candidates for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program must meet or have met all prerequisites for a PhD, PhD-equivalent, or health professional degree.
- If, at the time of application, an applicant has not completed all prerequisites for their degree, they must provide documentation by October 15 of the award year.
- If an applicant holds multiple PhDs, PhD-equivalents, or degrees as a health professional, the eligibility window is only applicable to the most recent degree earned.

Banting Postdoctoral Research Fellowships Application Procedure:
- Application Period: April to September on average. In addition, candidates must obtain approval from the host university. (institutions may have internal deadlines). Every year, applications end in September.
- Applicants are required to create and submit their applications: The onus is on the applicant to make sure the application is complete, including making sure all supporting documentation from the host school and referee evaluations have been sent in.
- Before starting their application, candidates for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships should read the selection committee guide. Together with helpful information on how the criteria are reviewed, this handbook includes a list of the three evaluation criteria.
- Applications for Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships should be prepared with a non-specialist research audience in mind, as the selection committees are comprised of members from a variety of disciplines.

NOTE: You can submit individual application documents in either English or French by doing the following steps:
- Verify if you qualify for the postdoctoral Banting Fellowships.
- Speak to the supervisor or host institution of your choice.
- Create an account on ResearchNet and the Canadian Common CV (CCV), and fill out the equity, diversity, and inclusion self-identification questionnaire.
- Make a CCV using the academic Vannier-Banting template and provide a link to the ResearchNet application.
- Launch an application on ResearchNet.
- Determine the research topic.
- Determine the participants
- Determine the referees.
- Enter your degree details.
- Add proposal details and any necessary supporting documentation.
- Examine the application materials in advance.
- Give your permission and turn in an application.
- Verify that the documents attached adhere to presentation requirements.
