The Open Notebook is offering a fantastic opportunity for early-career science journalists to participate in a compensated, part-time fellowship program.
During this one-year program, you will work closely with the TON editorial staff, planning, reporting, and writing pieces for The Open Notebook while receiving guidance from a mentor.
This experience provides you with the chance to immerse yourself in a vibrant and supportive community of past and present fellows and mentors, allowing you to explore your career interests, develop your skills, and pursue your passions.
The Open Notebook, an online magazine, publisher, and non-profit organization dedicated to science journalism, aims to help science journalists improve their craft by providing interviews, articles, and a valuable database of effective editor pitch letters.

Fellowship Benefits:

Selection Criteria:
You have to be an Early-career science journalist to be eligible to apply for the fellowship.
You are welcome to apply if you don’t reside in the United States.
This fellowship requires some background in writing for the general audience, either through training or experience.
You do not need to have considerable experience or training, but you do need to have some.
Less than three years of consistent, professional experience writing about science are required of science journalists, or those aspiring to become science journalists.
If you have more than three years of professional experience writing science, but part or all of that expertise is not in English, there may also be an exception to this rule.
Writing samples and recommendation letters are not acceptable forms of application.
Content that has been translated from another language into English is permitted.

One recommendation letter. This might come from an instructor, editor, supervisor, mentor, or other professional associate
Two written or multimedia samples, neither academic nor scientific, that are intended for a general audience may be submitted.
Supplementary details about yourself are optional. Applications from writers with any background are welcomed.
