The Florence School of Transnational Governance (STG) has established the Policy Leader Fellowship (PLF), a distinguished residential program aimed at mid-career policy experts from diverse fields.
This includes professionals from politics, the civil service, the media, non-governmental organizations, and various other sectors.
The fellowship is intentionally crafted to attract individuals equipped with a wealth of practical policy-making skills, regardless of their academic background, allowing for a rich tapestry of experience and perspectives to be woven into the program.
As a participant in the PLF, you not only benefit from direct access to the STG, but you also become a vital part of the esteemed teaching and research community at the European University Institute (EUI).
The structure of the program fosters an environment of collaboration and learning, where you share insights and challenges drawn from varied experiences, thus cultivating lasting professional and personal networks.
During your tenure at the STG, which lasts five or ten months, you engage deeply with pressing international issues.
Your work is not merely theoretical; you are tasked with developing actionable solutions and innovative policy proposals that address urgent global challenges.
This hands-on approach is designed to leverage your prior experience and insights, enabling you to contribute meaningfully to debates and strategies in international governance.
Moreover, the fellowship encourages a holistic approach to professional development. You are invited to immerse yourself in the vibrant academic life at EUI, attending seminars, workshops, and various events that enhance your projects.
You also have the opportunity to participate in specialized skills training aimed at bolstering your policy-making capabilities.
This engagement benefits not only the fellows themselves but also enriches the STG community, as these individuals bring their unique perspectives and real-world knowledge to the School’s teaching, networking, and training initiatives.

About European University Institute (EUI):
The European University Institute (EUI) was established against the backdrop of significant backing from a prominent European institution during the 1948 Hague Conference, as well as the subsequent European Cultural Conference held in 1949.
This nurturing environment fostered collaboration and intellectual exchange, paving the way for the institute’s emergence.
Leading up to the pivotal Messina Conference in 1955, a series of productive discussions took place, reflecting a collective desire to address the challenges posed by Europe’s ongoing integration and expansion.
During this conference, German Secretary of State Walter Hallstein seized the opportunity to advocate for the creation of a nuclear sciences training centre, addressing representatives from all six nations of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC).
This initiative was put forth under the auspices of the Euratom Treaty, which sought to unify and advance Europe’s approach to nuclear research and training.
