The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a dedicated Programme Policy Officer to join its Nigeria Country Office. This vital role will focus on enhancing the food value chain within the region and promoting essential food fortification initiatives.
When selected, you will play a key role in coordinating various projects aimed at improving nutritional outcomes, particularly through the Promoting Rice Fortification Project in Nigeria.
Additionally, this position will involve overseeing the Nigerian activities associated with the Modeling and Mapping of the Risk of Inadequate Micronutrient Intake (MIMI) project, alongside other food fortification strategies identified by the Nigeria Country Office.
Reporting directly to the Head of Nutrition at the Nigeria Country Office, the Programme Policy Officer will collaborate closely with Supply Chain and multiple other program units to effectively drive WFP Nigeria’s food fortification endeavours.
The responsibilities of this role include engaging in advocacy efforts and facilitating stakeholder involvement to promote food fortification initiatives.
You will also act as an advisor, providing insights during internal and external discussions related to programs and policies concerning food fortification.
A significant part of this job will entail building the capacities of national stakeholders and various partners, as well as organizing workshops and meetings within the country with government and non-governmental entities.
These gatherings will focus on sharing research, evidence, and other outputs derived from the programs, collecting feedback, and developing a comprehensive strategy for food fortification tailored to the country office’s goals.
Responsibilities:
Determine, chart, interact, and establish robust connections with important players in food fortification, such as governments, the UN system, the commercial sector, civil society, research institutions, and donors.
Assist in the development of food fortification and nutrition projects, including the creation of a strategy or approach that includes a number of projects, activities, plans, and procedures.
Serve as the coordinator for the Modeling and Mapping Risk of Inadequate Micronutrient Intake project and other food fortification programs in Nigeria.
You will also be in charge of the Promoting Rice Fortification Project in Nigeria (PRiFN) and other food fortification projects.
Organize the PRiFN platform’s partners.
Assist with food fortification projects, such as rice fortification, by offering technical assistance.
Encourage the ongoing discovery of options for food fortification.
Create and manage monitoring/assessment and micronutrient and fortification data collection systems to guarantee that strict quality requirements are upheld.
In order to contribute to the creation of accurate and timely reporting on nutrition initiatives that facilitate well-informed decision-making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders, track and analyze micronutrient and fortification data.
Communicate with HQ, RB, and other internal and external project partners to keep an eye on activities, guaranteeing efficient and timely teamwork and identifying any dangers to project completion.
To guarantee a cooperative and comprehensive approach to addressing nutrition needs, support the identification of possible partners and partnership negotiations, particularly south-south cooperation.
Participate in the mobilization of resources.
As needed, carry out additional duties in the technical field of work.
Qualifications:
A graduate degree in nutrition, public health, food science, food technology, or a related discipline.
Exposure to and experience with carrying out national and international development initiatives.
Experience working in the fields of nutrition, safety, food technology, public health, and food security, with a focus on food value addition and fortification.
Expertise in developing technical capacity, particularly for the commercial sector and government peers, on topics about food fortification, particularly rice fortification.
Expertise in recognizing and characterizing nutrition-related concerns or issues in a nation.
familiarity with recognizing and advancing advocacy messages for nutrition-related problems and solutions.
