The YALI RLC West Africa Emerging Leaders Program is now welcoming applications from aspiring leaders across the region.
This initiative is part of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), the United States government’s flagship program aimed at nurturing and empowering the next generation of African leaders.
The program specifically serves nine West African countries namely Togo, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, The Gambia, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Cameroon, and Sierra Leone, all through its hub at the Accra Regional Leadership Centre (RLC).
Hosted by the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), the RLC provides an innovative leadership training experience designed to cultivate the talents of young individuals.
This transformative program equips you with essential skills and knowledge, enabling you to become effective agents of change within your communities.
The YALI Regional Leadership Center in West Africa offers young African leaders who meet the outlined criteria a wealth of opportunities, resources, and specialized training.
This support is aimed at enhancing their capacity to serve their organizations, communities, and countries more effectively.
The current application period for Cohort 52 is open, featuring in-person leadership training across three distinct tracks: Public Policy Management, Business and Entrepreneurship, and Civic Leadership. You can also apply for the next Generation Internship Program by the West Africa Civil Society Institute

About Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI):
A significant and impactful effort aimed at nurturing the next generation of African leaders is encapsulated in the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).
With nearly one-third of the continent’s population aged between 10 and 24 and approximately 60% under the age of 35, Africa is a youthful continent brimming with potential.
These statistics underscore the urgent need for concerted investment in cultivating capable, result-oriented leaders who can steer the region toward progress.
YALI promotes three strategic approaches designed to recognize, uplift, and empower the continent’s youth, ensuring they are equipped to influence their communities and lead with purpose.
Benefits of the Program:
The variety of aspiring or up-and-coming business owners who hope to establish their enterprises on the continent or assume leadership positions in the private sector are served by this route.
Those who are or want to be civically active and serve the public through volunteer work, community-based groups, or non-governmental organizations are the target audience for this track.
People who work or want to work in any level of government (including elected positions), regional organizations like the African Union or the West Africa Community, international organizations like the United Nations, or other think tanks or organizations with a public interest are the target audience for this track.
Requirements:
The age range you must be in is 18 to 35.
Ghanian, Togonian, Nigerian, Cameroonian, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberian, Sierra Leonean, or Gambia nationals are required.
You must be Fluent in the English language
A young individual spearheading change in your nation, neighborhood, or organization
Possessing proven leadership skills and a passion for business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, and public policy management
Young leaders from rural areas who are economically disadvantaged
Young leaders with impairments
Women and other marginalized groups are encouraged to apply
