Scholarship is awarded to students who:
- Have studied at the University of Hamburg for not less than two semesters. Masters students pursuing a two-year program are entitled to apply after their first semester.
- Have a track record of demonstrating achieving excellent academic grades.
- Have applied for a particular course at the University of Hamburg and have been accepted.
- Have evidence to show your excellent academic feats. It could be awards or any recognizable honors.
- Do not hold German citizenship.
- Are not eligible for the federal student loan scheme.
Merit Scholarship Benefits:
- Monthly aid of €930 for your upkeep. PhD students may get around €1,200 monthly.

- Evidence to show your academic achievements. For instance awards.
- Academic accomplishments and transcripts. Those applying for master’s are required to submit their transcripts while PhD applicants will submit evidence of their recent degree certificate in English or German.

First Badge: 15 April (funding period: 1 October – 30 September of the same year)
Second Badge: 15 October (funding period: 1 April – 31 March of the following year)
