In tribute to the influential legacy of former South African President Nelson Mandela and his esteemed wife Graca Machel, the Brenthurst Foundation invites recent graduates to apply for the prestigious Machel Mandela Internship.
This exceptional internship program offers a full-time position lasting at least six months, with the selected candidate expected to commence their role by February 1, 2025.
The opportunity is open to individuals from South Africa or any other country, all of whom will be based at the Brenthurst Foundation’s headquarters in Parktown, Johannesburg.
You will engage closely with Foundation staff, contributing to a diverse array of initiatives that may involve international travel.
Responsibilities will include assisting with event planning, managing administrative tasks, and importantly, producing a comprehensive discussion paper on a topic related to economic development.
The Machel Mandela Internship comes with the added benefit of housing and a monthly stipend that covers living expenses, ensuring that interns can focus fully on their work. Requirements:
You must be less than thirty years old
You must have a master’s degree
Outstanding written and spoken English. It would be beneficial to speak African and other languages.
Outstanding ability to communicate
A self-starter who needs little supervision and control, enthusiastic and dependable
Capable of striking a balance between deadlines and meticulousness and proficiency in all fundamental IT abilities
Proofreading and copy-editing abilities are advantageous.
A deep love for Africa and a sharp interest in innovative ideas and tactics to improve the continent’s economic performance.
Extensive familiarity with African politics and economics

There will be a monthly all-inclusive stipend and, if necessary (per Foundation policy), housing.
Depending on the terms of the agreement with the Foundation, additional work-related expenses might potentially be covered.
