Who qualifies for the Scholarship:
- To be eligible for the 2025 McDonnell International Scholars Academy, you must submit an application to a master’s or doctorate program at Washington University.
- Applications to graduate programs at Washington University in St. Louis must be submitted separately and in addition to those to the McDonnell Academy.
- You must submit separate applications to the WashU doctoral or master’s program and the McDonnell Academy.
- You must have a bachelor’s degree or above or intend to obtain one before the conclusion of the 2024–25 academic year in July 2025.
- Undergraduate study is not eligible for this grant.
- All nationalities are allowed to apply. International graduate candidates, however, who have graduated from one of the Academy’s Partner Universities, are given preference. Check the list of partner universities HERE
Criteria for Selection:
You will be selected based on your aptitude for academics, your potential, and your desire to lead in the future in business, government, the professions, or academia.
You have an interest in more general social and cultural issues, accept diversity, and have a global perspective. Also, you should be dedicated to conversing with people from different backgrounds and specialties.
You must show willingness and capacity to bring about constructive change both locally and globally and dedicated to participating in the Academy’s leadership development and communication skills program.

To get financing, apply for the McDonell’s International Scholars Academy Fellowship program.
The McDonnell Academy application must be submitted online in conjunction with your WashU graduate degree application.
You must apply with a letter of recommendation, an introductory video of yourself and an essay explain why you deserve the scholarship.
