The United Nations Regional Course in International Law for Africa is a collaborative effort between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the African Union, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
The course, organized by the Codification Division of the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs, is designed to provide participants with in-depth knowledge of international law.
It will be held in person at the ECA’s facilities in Addis Ababa from February 20th to March 14th, 2025, and will be conducted in English. This unique opportunity is open to a maximum of 30 participants, with a few spots reserved for self-paying individuals.
Renowned academics and practitioners will deliver comprehensive instruction on a wide range of international law topics, with a focus on issues relevant to the region.
The interactive nature of the training encourages participants to exchange ideas and experiences, fostering a deeper understanding of legal issues within the community.
The primary objective of the Regional Course is to offer government officials and international law instructors from developing and emerging economies the chance to enhance their knowledge of international law and the legal functions of the UN and its affiliated organizations.

About the Indigenous Fellowship Program:
In 1997, the Indigenous Fellowship Program (IFP) launched its English language component, which was held for four weeks at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, Switzerland.
This program is strategically scheduled to coincide with the annual conference of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP).
The primary objective of this training initiative is to enhance the comprehension of current international human rights instruments and procedures among Indigenous peoples, empowering them to effectively advocate for the rights of their communities.
Benefits of the Program:
The fellowship will pay for your training materials, travel, lodging, meals, and medical insurance when you are selected. By the rules and regulations controlling the management of UN fellowships, you will also get a small stipend to help with additional living expenses.
Limited spots will also be available for participants who can pay for themselves. Self-funded participants pay all costs related to their participation in the Regional Course, except for training materials such as travel, medical insurance, lodging, and living expenses.
Selection Requirements:
A legal background and practical expertise in the subject of international law are prerequisites for consideration for the Regional Courses.
Additionally, you must speak the language of instruction which is English with ease.
You must attest to your ability to attend the entire course.
Thirty people can be accommodated in the regional course.
Candidates from UN Member States who are also members of the African group may apply to this Regional Course.
